Grandview Corners became our second location, marking the next step in our entrepreneurial journey. It’s one thing to run one café, but opening a second introduces a whole new landscape. This was where we got our second real dose of entrepreneurship. Our goal from the start was to be managerially run—creating a system that would allow us to expand easily while giving our staff the autonomy to lead and thrive in their roles. To make that happen, we had to design systems that supported their success.
This is what Mauka is all about. Mauka, meaning “mountain” in Hawaiian, is our busiest café. It’s also where we installed our new roaster, enabling us to produce enough coffee to support at least four locations. We want to extend a special thank you to the South Surrey community, especially in the Grandview area, for embracing us and helping Mauka thrive.
At Mauka, we learned how to grow from running a single café to managing multiple locations. Just like Makai, our first café, Mauka was a new learning experience—but one that helped us evolve and grow in ways we never imagined.
If you’re ever in Grandview Corners, stop by! You might catch us in the middle of a live roast or enjoy a set from one of our daytime DJs. And if nothing else, you’re guaranteed great, healthy food and drinks—served with nothing but Aloha vibes!
